How to apply to Open Sky International : what to know before you start

Here is how to apply to Open Sky International, an independent international school in Boulogne-Billancourt, 5 minutes from Paris, from preschool (from age 2) to high school [link: /en/curriculum-ages-2-18/]. There is no entrance exam: we welcome every child wherever they are, including children who do not yet speak English or French. Admissions are open throughout the year, depending on the places available in each class.

You apply online, in five minutes and with no application fee: the application is a way of introducing your child and your plans to us. Our Admissions Officer then calls you back, you visit the school, and then you confirm enrolment. The assessment takes place after enrolment, to place your child in the right class and on the right language pathway.

Step 1: complete the online application form

Applying takes five minutes: your child's details, current class, languages spoken at home and preferred start date. No documents need to be attached at this stage and there is no application fee. You receive an acknowledgement of receipt immediately.

Step 2: a call from our Admissions Officer within 24 to 48 hours

Hélène Fiack, our Admissions Officer, will call or email you after you apply to confirm the places available in the class you are interested in, introduce the school and arrange a visit. If no place is available, we tell you straight away and offer to put your child on the waiting list. This is when the fees are presented.

Step 3: the school visit, or a video call interview from abroad

After this conversation, you visit the school during lessons with the admissions team or, if you are still abroad, we organise an interview by video call. You can book a visit slot directly online.

If you confirm that you would like to join Open Sky International, we will send you our enrolment pack. Enrolment is confirmed once we have received the fully completed pack and payment of part of the fees.

Step 4: receive the enrolment pack and confirm enrolment

If you confirm that you would like to join Open Sky International, we will send you our enrolment pack. Enrolment is confirmed once we have received the fully completed pack and payment of part of the fees.

Step 5: the academic and language assessment

Your child is now enrolled. We review what your child already knows through an age-appropriate assessment in language (French and English), maths and science. These assessments take place at school and last between half a day and two days, depending on your child's age. The assessment determines your child's language pathway (full programme, EAL or FAL support) and the right class, and is not an entrance exam. Following these assessments, a catch-up programme may also be offered.

Step 6: confirm the class and prepare for the start of the school year

Following the assessment results, we confirm which class your child will join. This is also when the enrolment file is finalised with the various documents required for enrolment. The documents required to finalise the application are:

  • Completed and signed enrolment pack
  • Birth certificate or a copy of the livret de famille (French family record book)
  • Any information available to help us understand your child's academic background (school reports)
  • Medical questionnaire
  • Food allergy questionnaire
  • People authorised to collect your child
  • Permission for the student to leave the school unaccompanied (depending on the child's age)

Information about the school uniform is given when the enrolment pack is completed. This is also when the family chooses its options (canteen, after-school care, homework support, after-school clubs and activities).

Every new family is welcomed with a buddy, a house and a welcome meeting at the start of the year.

What you can prepare before you apply

Nothing is required at the application stage. Three things will, however, make the next steps easier: your child's last two school reports (in their original language, without translation), your preferred start date, and your questions for the visit (language, level, canteen, after-school care). If your child is coming from an international school, the name of the programme followed (Year group, Grade, exam board) helps us place them from the very first conversation.

If you are applying from abroad, let us know your arrival date in Paris: we organise the interview by video call and schedule the assessment for when you arrive.

How to apply ? Start with the online application: five minutes, no application fee

Applying mid-year, from abroad, or without speaking the language

Applying mid-year

You can apply at any time, subject to places being available. International families often apply between March and September, French families at the start of the school year and in January. Children can join until May for the current school year, depending on the class.

Applying from abroad

The application and interview can be completed remotely; the school visit and assessment take place upon your arrival. We support families throughout their relocation. Our team remains available at every stage to simplify the process and help prepare for your child's arrival with confidence.

Applying without speaking English or French

Your child receives intensive language support through EAL or FAL programmes, integrated into their school week. This personalised support allows them to progress at their own pace and gradually develop their language skills.
