Looking for an English school in France? Open Sky International is an independent international school in Boulogne-Billancourt. Your child learns in English and French every day, from age 2 to 18, with non-selective admissions. They sit IGCSEs and then A Levels at our examination centre.
Strictly speaking, an English school is one that follows the English National Curriculum, in English, often for British families on a temporary posting abroad. An English-speaking school teaches in English, whatever its curriculum.
A bilingual school teaches in two languages. These three terms describe different things, but the families who use them generally expect the same thing. They want their child to learn in English, at a level that opens the door to universities around the world, without giving up French.
Open Sky International is an independent international school, distinct from both an English school and a French school. We design our curriculum drawing on the British, Singaporean and French curricula, and we teach in English and French every day.
Our students sit English qualifications, IGCSEs and then A Levels, on site. From September 2027, they will also be able to take the bilingual French-English International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
For most families, an English school in France is first and foremost a school where children are taught in English. From nursery (starting at age 2) through to high school, your child learns in both languages, with native English-speaking and French-speaking teachers. For them, English is a language of learning, just as French is. By the end of their schooling, they are bilingual in both writing and speaking, with qualifications recognised on both sides of the English Channel.
Their entire schooling takes place on a single campus of over 3,000 m² in Boulogne-Billancourt, 5 minutes from Paris. The school welcomes children of more than 40 nationalities, in small classes with a maximum of 20 per class.
Our teachers hold a PGCE and use British-style teaching practices (including “form time”, “clinics” and “assemblies”). The PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) is the British teacher-training qualification. Form time brings the class together with their form tutor at the start of the day; clinics are subject-specific support sessions; assemblies bring together the students of one section or of the whole school.
Families looking for an English school in France expect English qualifications above all. Our students prepare for GCSEs and IGCSEs in Year 10 (3e) and Year 11 (2de). They then prepare for A Levels in Year 12 (1re) and Year 13 (terminale). A Levels are recognised by universities around the world and give access to French higher education.

Your child acquires native-level English by learning maths, science or ICT in English. Their qualifications give access to British and international universities as well as to French higher education. French remains compulsory throughout their schooling.
Your child does not need to speak English to join: the EAL programme supports them until they can follow all their lessons in English.
You will find the familiar landmarks of an English education: Year groups, GCSEs and IGCSEs, A Levels, with an examination centre on site. Your child can join mid-year, up until May depending on the year group and places available.
They learn French with French-speaking teachers, and FAL (French as an Additional Language) support helps them if they arrive without speaking it. In middle school and high school, each lesson takes place in its own language: maths and science in English, French and history and geography in French.
